I need help identifying this plant and how to salvage it! I bought it as a damaged plant :( and I want to know what it is and whether I can bring it back to life.

(I’ve put it on the windowsill for the photo, I don’t normally sit it there because I’m not sure that it likes direct sunlight)

I am guessing it is a young bird of paradise plant. The stem and leaf structure appear to be similar to what I am currently seeing in my local stores. I would say that the plant is healthy enough to do well if you can provide the conditions it likes. It has just been roughly handled in its last placement. Patience is the name of the game.

Do a search for “young bird of paradise plants” it will give you a jumping off point. (Lots of sellers on Etsy or eBay) and you can find care tips to help you out.

It looks more like a banana to me. Strelitzias have leaves in two opposite ranks. Bananas are spiral around the stem. Need the same kind of conditions though -- lots and lots of light and mostly moist. Bananas prefer a little moister.
