I think this is smoke tree/smoke bush but it has no flowers on it.

Agree, Cotinuis. Ours is not flowering yet either.

Yeah, definitely some kind of smoketree (Cotinus). Looks just like the one I had when I lived in New York. I wish I knew the exact species of the one we had. They're gorgeous when they bloom.

I have several and love them, planted about 4 years ago. A neighbor down the road had 2 in her front garden. They grew really big, much bigger than she had wanted and the more she cut them back the taller they grew. Really impressive to my eye. I'm sad to say the new owner of the home has chopped them down.
