Hi all! I am a newbie and need some advice. We have very steep banks behnd the house we bought 5 years ago and I'm just getting around to tackling them (it's a huge project!) Anyway, in a few areas, the erosion has already caused significant overhangs. On the ones that were onlya few feet tall, I was able to plant shrubs that will hide the red mud, however, these overhangs are up high. I am using creeping phlox and creeping jenny on the basic slope, but wondering if anyone has any ideas how to cover the ugliness at the top? I am in growing z

I wish I had better context. Ever heard of air pruning? That forest layer of roots is air pruning- back and back and back.

Bulbs, like monkey grass, liriope, mondo etc will grow in clay with good drainage. Slow growers like boxwoods or winter daphne and holly also, but you have some pretty good shade. We can have shaded fatsia japonica and gold dust aucuba work (Birmingham AL). Personally like tea olive, I would be thinking wintergreens. Magnolias may need more sun but how about a solid hedge of pink passion camellia?

I live on a slope myself, your subject is interesting. I kept looking and found this link. We use the fern garden and mondo a great deal here at the house.

Thank you! I will look into all of those. I am a novice and have little knowledge of many you named. I appreciate the feedback!
