Hello there!

I recently moved into an apartment and it came with 2 bonsai trees. I have been in the apartment for 3 months and have lightly watered them twice.

Over the last couple of weeks the leaves on one of the trees have started to turn yellow and drop so I’m starting to get very worried about the plant. I have tried google but no help at all!

Although the leaves are falling I can see some new shoots forming but as more leaves start to drop the more worried I get about the plant.

The bonsai was near the window in the lounge however I thought it may be getting too cold so moved it from the window to my dining room table to see if that helped but the leaves have continued to drop.

Can anyone give me any advice on what it could be at all?

I have attached some images to help. Images are of the leaves that have dropped and some of the new looking (what I think are) shoots.

Many thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum :)

Without knowing the hardyness of the tree it's hard to say what to do. If it were a British native i'd say it should be outside but seeing how it was indoors when you inherited it then best keep it there.

Probably best to put it back near the window as light levels are very low at the moment, especially with the foggy days.

Hello and welcome Lauren. Have you got your central heating going? It can cause havoc with any indoor plant - can you see any sign of little spider webs anywhere on the plant? The good bit is that it`s definitely budding up again :joyful:

thank you! I will move it back to the window.
I wish I knew more about how it was before we inherited it but I definitely don’t want it to die!

Hello! And thank you!

We have underfloor heating which is mostly on of an evening/ night don’t really have it on during the day but it did live by the window and we don’t have radiators that could affect it.

I am definitely pleased to hear that it is budding as my biggest worry is all the leaves falling and it dying.

You have a Ficus and they hate 2 things. First is temperature under 50 degrees F and second, they hate to be moved. The air next to a window can be considerably colder than in the middle of the room. If you have good bonsai soil you should water every other day. If garden soil, once a week. Also, keep it away from heat vents.
