Hi all, I'm pretty new to the gardening world and thought this could be the perfect place to gain some knowledge and make some friends with the same interests. My garden currently is looking worse for wear and my wife has been on to me about fixing it up so here I am haha. Excited to start my new journey in the gardening world !!!

Welcome @robjames621

I believe it is the perfect place to gain gardening knowledge and make friends and share your journey with likeminded people.

Hello and welcome, I am sure there are threads giving advice to beginners, blowed if I can find them, my search abilities are almost nil. Anyway the first bit of advice I give to people is to go for cheap plants. Expensive plants are not better, they are harder to grow, cheap means easy to grow and propagate, and it can be just as colourful etc.
Of course there are some people who make a point of picking the most difficult things, but I wouldn't advise it for a beginner.

I'd recommend the cheapest gas mower you can find and after several years when it gets dull and hard to start, give it away to someone who likes fixing things and get a new one. Unless you have a huge lawn.. then get a John Deere ride-on. Good warranty and always parts available online.
