Hi, some basic carpentry can be very useful in the garden. How much of a plot do you have, and has it been gardened before? What sort of soil is it, sand, clay? The first thing most gardens want is to get the soil into good shape.
Anyway, welcome to the forum, look forward to seeing you around.
It's not my own property. It's a home where I do a lot of work, and I only recently started doing some of the detailed things that the landscapers don't do. Like planting bushes and trimming trees, and generally re-arranging things. Also, it's on the edge of a jungle so there's a constant battle with vines. Morning Glory grows amazingly fast!
The soil is very good everywhere. It's sticky clay, but it already has cinders and sand added. It's a wet area, but the soil drains good and it's easy to dig..
There are so many different plants, and I'm still learning the names of all of them... Mock Orange bushes, Hawaiian Snowbush, Ti, Heavenly Bamboo, regular Bamboo (which I will be removing), Mondo Grass, a Magnolia tree, a Juniper tree, Gardenias, various types of Ginger, are just some that I know the names of. There are still more that I don't know the names of yet. It's a beautiful place!
