I’m looking for a hedge trimmer, for my hedges, 25 meters along one side, about 15 meters along the front, laurel, hazel and Cotoneaster franchetii. I have a Bosch cordless non professional, it’s good, but struggles with old wood over 5mm thick. I bought a cheap corded one, £60, the blade bent on the first use. Any recommendations? I want something that will make light work of the hedge. Corded is okay, I will only use it a few times a year. I want to be able to cut the hedge down more, so I will cut through old wood, and Laurel in general is a pain. UK based. Oh and I hate Cobra!

Not a lot of experience of trimmers, petrol Mculloch that has a Husqvarna motor which I’ve always found good. But this was a bit iffy on running smoothly , although no problem with 5mm stuff. I would argue it’s an area where you only get what you pay for, and recommend you look at what the hire places use (as they often use the best). I’ve found Sthil to be the best out there for this type of gear, but it’s also very expensive. Perhaps trying out some hire gear would give you a better idea?

Thanks. Hiring is pricey here. I decided on a Bosch corded, their tools last me 10+ years, and no expensive battery.

FWIW It arrived today, I took 6 inches off top of the front hedge, 15m long, Cotoneaster franchetii. It took an hour, so I’m pleased. I would not have been able to do it with my Bosch battery hedge trimmer. I’m sure the more powerful battery ones are beautiful, but I only need it a few times a year, and £160 is much less than equivalent battery units. For pro use, battery would be my choice,
