Hedge root damage

Hello, looking some feedback on this please. I dug foundations close to me back hedge in the summer ( full length of the hedge. There was a little damage to the root but not severe.
my hedge has lost lots of leafs this winter so far and is looking much thinner than it normally would at this time of year.
Will it return to normal next spring / summer? Or do you think the damage is fatal?

Which plant is hedge composed of? Also, for what structure was this foundation made, a building? a fence? Is the structure built? Photos would help us inderstand this situation better.
