I am looking for hedging plants that are suitable for a south facing front garden in London with limited space and which grow well in narrow planters and don't require much maintenance. Have been looking at Photinia, Choisya and Geonia Laurel, and wondered if there were any other suggestions. I don't really need it to be a hedging screen (although it will border a road) and just looking for something that I can easily manage. Thanks in advance!

I hate to be cynical, but my experience of London front gardens suggests that something growing well in a narrow planter bordering the road will disappear quite quickly, unless you happen to be next door to the police station. I have planted out pelargoniums in a roadside bed one day and had a bed of holes next morning. :(
