Ok some dumb questions to follow

This year we have dill growing fantastically, some in a pot on the deck and alot growing randomly in the garden. All looking nice and frilly. But, we're not ready to use it yet as there's no pickles to pick.

Previously we would let it grow until we were ready to make pickles but often the dill would bolt beforehand.

So, does dill keep growing if cut? If so how much should be left?

Does it act like basil, meaning constant picking keeps it growing most of the season?

Yes, leave about 1/3 of the plant....cut at 10 - 12 inches. Pruning helps to keep it from getting leggy.

Yes, in my experience...regular pruning helps maintain a steady supply of fresh leaves. Once dill starts flowering, its leaves become less flavorful.

Oh good news, thanks. So when they get about 12 inches tall, cut them back to 4 inches if I'm reading that right.

Yeah the bolting does change the flavor. A little weaker but it seems to also develop some astringency.

Might finally have fresh home grown dill for my crock pickles!
