Happy New Year and I hope all your gardening pursuits are realized. I'm looking forward to the new ideas and information that I've enjoyed here so far in 2012.
12 hours to midnight here.

Well it's past midnight in the year 2013. :)
Cardoon I've never heard of but we call them artichokes.

8 Hours to go here too Claudine, you in the same time zone as me then?:)

Happy New Year to Jed in the future:D

Related to Artichokes, only you cook the fleshy leaf midribs, not tried eating them yet.

From my calculations it's just on midnight in your time zones.
The glasses have been clinked.2013 here we come.
These Cardoons (sounds like a Scottish word) do you drop the whole flower in the or pot like the artichoke?

Yep, think we're all in the same year now:D

I've heard you can cook the unopened buds the same as artichokes, not tried them yet though, just left it to be pretty & keep the bees happy. If you look closely, there is a bee in the flower.

There have been a lot of problems with bees and varoa mites, but the wild hives are working thru it, lets hope it picks up for them otherwise we are all stuffed:eek:

The bees are disappearing by something called colony collapse disorder in the USA from what they believe now to be stress related.

We are fortunate so far in Oz but there has been varroa mite found on ships docked in Sydney last November. Australia is the only honey producing country without the problem.
Albert Einstein made the statement ” If honey bees become extinct, human society will follow in four years.”
