Half of my lilac tree turning yellow/brown

Hi. I have a lilac tree that was planted last year. It had flowers when we planted it and this year too. I noticed the leaves on one branch turning yellow/brown. Is this some type of fungal infection? Why would this be just one branch? Can it be saved?
We are located in southern New Hampshire.
