Looks like a Fejoia sellowiana/Pineapple guava you've got there. I love these "shrubs." We have a gigantic one in our back yard here in California.
I'm no expert, but I would just plant this guava as is. Make sure the rootball is level with the soil surface. Any pruning can come later. Ours always has suckers, but those can easily be removed, as the shrub ages. I hope you'll try making jam, once your crops come in.
