I wonder how okra would be as a micro? I could easily generate a virtually unlimited supply of seed. Ever try that?

AI answered my question:

Okra microgreens are a nutrient-rich, antioxidant-packed option that can diversify your microgreen garden. They’re not as mainstream as kale or broccoli microgreens, but they bring unique health benefits and a mild flavor that avoids the sliminess of mature okra.

The health benefits quoted are pretty impressive. With just a little planning, in my climate I could grow literally thousands upon thousands of okra seeds.... free just for the taking.

I think I'll do a little experiment with some saved okra seed used as a micro and see how it goes. 🤠

Some Okra micro-greens in my near future. I had some left-over turnip seeds and threw them in the mix also...love turnip greens.

Interesting little experiment.

Do you sell those?

If not, how many people are eating those? How long does it take for two people to consume all that before they grow their true leaves, no longer being a true microgreen?

I'm considering using my weeds in my yard for growing microgreens, since are free and it would be a good source of nutrients. Some of the plants I'm considering are Spanish Needle (Bidens alba), Pellitory (Parietaria judaica), Catchweed ( Galium aparine).

Where do you buy large quantities of seeds at affordable prices?

40 years ago we did micro greens in quart jars. The only way we could afford seeds was grow plants and harvest our own seeds. 1 melon has about 1000 seeds, 1 ear of corn about 800 seeds, 1 okra pod about 700 seeds, 1 pepper about 800 seeds, 1 bean plant about 100 seeds.

Put 1 spoon of seeds in each jar, beans, corn, peas, peppers, melons, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, etc.

We had 20 quart jars on our kitchen counter top. Put seeds in each jar. Pour warm water in each jar then drain away the water. Keep a cloth over the jar opening so water pours out and seeds stay in. Rinse jars 5 times a day with warm water. Keep seeds warm and wet in a sunny location. When jars become full of green plants you have a salad, sandwich, topping, breakfast lunch or dinner.

Greens have ROOTs also. No soil to deal with. Pour sprouts from jars on your breakfast lunch or dinner then put another spoon of seeds in the jar. Some seeds grow greens sooner than others.

Nice thing about sprouts you can have a sandwich covered with broccoli sprouts out of season. Any seeds in the cabbage family sprouts extremely fast.
