Growing for hay

We're growing about 2 acres for hay and we are going to call up a farmer or someone else interested to come cut it and allow them to have it. It didn't grow as high as I thought it would at this point, maybe due to lack of rain I suppose. Any thoughts as to a certain height it should be to make it worth while before we call someone to cut it?
