mtairymd submitted a new Showcase Item:

Garden Basket (Trug)

This is a simple design built from reclaimed wood and purchased ¼” wood slats. It cost very little and only took a couple of hours to complete the build. The goal was light weight, shallow and wide for collecting leafy vegetables, easy to handle and somewhat attractive.

Video of the Build and more pictures:

Lee valley tools sells a trug. I keep thinking of how the canvas would look over time and the mental image is not good. Anyone here had long term use of one of these and comments ?

oops just noticed your trug is not for growing, only gathering

still would be interested in opinions on the one for growing.

I just checked out the trugs/planters on lee valley. They look pretty nice but I don't see the canvas you mentioned. Does it go in the planter (under the dirt)?

I think you are referring to this statement:

"On each model, the slats used for the sidewalls are spaced to ensure good drainage and soil aeration, and soil is contained with an included fabric liner".

I assume you would need to replace the liner every few years. That does look like a lot of work for the larger containers.
