When Jack Frost plays a sneak attack and takes out your tomatoes...then its fried green tomato time here. Kind of like when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. ;)

Actually, fried green tomatoes don't necessarily need to be a consolation prize. In and of themselves, they are well worthy of their own standing.

Using a three-batch system and frying up golden brown...terrific.

Set up with some Ranch dip and mac and cheese and you have a Southern delight. Wow these things are good!!

A friend used to host "no tucking furkey " parties the weekend after Thanksgiving. Lots of interesting dishes at that pot luck.

On a cold wet fall/winter day, nothing tastes better to me than heaping bowls of potato soup.

It is especially good when made with homegrown garden veggies....Yukon Gold potatoes fresh dug, carrots pulled today, and onions from storage.

Add in Velveeta cheese and celery from the store and you have a cold weather treat that is hard to beat.

That potato soup reminds me of a situation with my staff at one of the group homes. The staff had made potato soup and the very skinny client was eating it. I asked them how they made it. Staff said potatoes and water. About freaked. I said, you need whole milk in it, and butter. Or chicken broth and butter. One of my missions was to truly have a real cooking class for the staff, but administration was not the best support in that area. Sadly, retired, without that achievement.
