I’m wanting to use 275 gallon Totes for Self Watering Raised Beds.

My wife has found several that have had oil or paint in them. I keep telling her they won’t work and she keeps giving me this Why not look.

Functionally it would work just fine. Whether you would want to use it for the purpose of watering your vegetables is a personal choice. I mean, there are many who won't even store food in food grade plastic Tupperware type containers. They'll only use glass containers. Me, I use the plastic stuff. But, I wouldn't use those non food grade totes for garden watering.

I've been using IBC's for raised wicking beds for years with no issues. Just scrub them down well and plant. I also use IBC for rainwater storage. Before you set one up for that check your average annual rainfall. Sometimes the amount of rainwater you collect isn't worth the cost and and operation labor. I get decent spring rain and fall rain but there's not much through the summer. I may have only gotten 2 330 gallon tanks this year and I do have a sizable footprint collecting water.

A lot of the illnesses in our country are from chemical saturation, chemical poisoning. For example, you can follow and find the graphs for populations of Krohn's Disease, Autism follow the graphs for glyphosate PERFECTLY with no deviation. But I think the glyphosate is not the only culprit. Instead it just represents the spearhead of all kinds of chemicals in food we're exposed to or that are put in the food. Your body can't process those chemicals, but your body has acids like stomach acid that are trying to break them down. So some of them pass through... but not all of them will. And so things like Irritable Bowl Syndrome start occuring in large numbers of the population. And all kinds of things...

I agree with you to try to find something that won't have paint or oils in it.

I hope you can reach your spouse and help them be willing to find something else. Its very possible that there might be some similar totes that you can find elsewhere that haven't had heavy chemicals in them.

I hope for your success in this and that you can reach your family in a way to find harmony with the decision also to keep peace in the house.
