Earwigs, cherries and apples

I heard a story on the TV news of a cherry orchardist trapping earwigs in specially made boxes to supply an apple orchardist with these cherry pests. Rather than spray for earwigs on his property which do a lot of damage to his cherries, his traps using pheromones seem to reduce the insect considerably. He then gives the boxes of trapped earwigs to an apple orchardist who then releases them in his orchard to control aphids.:)
Earwigs attack other soft fruit such as apricots, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries but avoid hard fruits.
Male and female earwigs. The female is on the top in photo.

Here is a trap design I found that could be used in your garden.

Thats an interesting way of pest control Jed:)

I take it the oil & soy sauce is part of a "straight to wok" marinade:D

I found the recipe interesting. Again it's a fermented product that attracts insects.
Vegemite and beer also are used in other types of insect traps.
I gather zigs you would know of Vegemite. You have something similar. Marmite?

Marmite, yes. But Willow prefers Vegemite. Its in most of the supermarkets now, used to be a health food shop only product.

I did not know earwigs attack soft fruit, I have heard of using insects to control other insects in the garden, your trap looks good.

I may try this trap just to get rid of earwigs, I hate those little suckers! They really like to get in my corn patch and ack, I hate to even harvest my corn! The chickens help but not enough! Thanks for this info!
