In the 1980s, some Isrealis were hired as consultant of my former employer. His new business was agriculture. After a year, he opened up a Mom and Pop store selling fresh fruits and vegetables harvested from his farm. From the explanation, the Israeli consultants introduced drip irrigation which they use in Israel. So even in the desert, they have vineyards and other fruit trees that bear good fruits all because of drip irrigation.

Drip irrigation really helps during dry seasons or on deserts. One is supposed to have a continuous supply of water so that the plants may grow healthy. You can opt to construct a green house so that you can use less water. You can plant fruits and vegetables and sell them at a profit.
