This is the first redheaded woodpecker I've seen in the birdcam. I haven't refreshed tge suet since the blackbird came back and im assuming that's part of why he is there.

Meadowlark have you seen the merlin bird call app? It tells you what bird calls it hears. Sometimes I get a dozen IDs in a few minutes.

No, but thanks for the heads up on it. I will check it out...although I consider myself pretty good at recognizing bird calls of common birds.

That is a beauty. I haven't seen the peckers here yet this year...but should be soon.

@dirty hands I checked it out and downloaded it. Very interesting.

Do you know of a way to interface it with my bird camera?
That would be awesome. The bird camera records audio with the videos...could get AI identification and Merlin call identification at same time. Wow that would be fun if there is a way.

Anyone know how to interface the two apps?

Good news on the birds front...the woodpecker is back.

He is using the sunflower seed feeder, not the bird camera feeder.or the suet feeder. He uses the feeder much like a tree feeding gripped to a rail as opposed to feeding standing upright. I think he avoids other feeders because he cant grip any rails on them.

Interesting point @Sheal . It is comical to watch it feed on the other feeders hanging out exposed from a rail. It likes to get a beak full and then fly up into the tree and then consume the food.

Our Greater Spotted are nervous birds so tend to, like yours, get a beak full and fly off to eat. Some years ago I managed to get a lucky shot of a parent feeding a youngster.

I use hand held cameras and it's amazing how many birds spot the lens reflecting and are away, even though they haven't heard or seen me.

For a couple of years I couldn't understand why sea birds I was trying to photograph on a local beach took off as soon as they saw me coming, even at a distance. I eventually cottoned on, it was the red coat I was wearing. I changed the coat and no problem.
