That is what I would have said also before watching the feeder show. That Goldfinch has a fearless streak and except when the cardinal throws his superior weight around, the Goldfinch more than holds his own.

Much more colourful , but from what I've seen also more timid.

The suet I purchased is called peanut delight. I saw the hot stuff advertised but wasn't aware it is effective.... a future purchase. 🤠

Those of you who use suet, how long after putting it out would it be reasonable to see birds on it?

I hung mine from a tree limb several days ago and no action yet. 🤔

Meanwhile at the seed feeders it is bird mayhem.

Since its new to the area it can take a little while.

Its best to put it near a tree line or brush. You can put it close to your current feeder too but most of those birds will probably ignore it but it might draw attention to the others.

The ones who will use suet seem a little shy towards humans. They like to have cover near by.

My favorite visitors are a couple of sparrows...the Red Fox Sparrow and the Chipping Sparrow.

I formerly had a very low opinion of sparrows in general but watching these birds at the feeder has given me an entirely new perspective on the genus.

The two sparrows bracing for an attack by the Goldfinch...

Have any birds found the suet yet meadowlark?
Yesterday I was late at refilling the seed feeders and yes some of the birds found the suet rather than starve. ;) I'm hopeful it will be used more now...if some woodpeckers show up, I will really be pleased.

By the way, my camera caught this interesting shot of a shoot-out at the feeder yesterday. It was red fox sparrow vs American goldfinch...and the sparrow won this one.
