I think the hawk is a red shoulder hawk. He hangs out a lot.
Hadn't seen the pilliated woodpecker for awhile but I hear him or others often.

The Cooper's Hawk which we have good numbers has that red shade to its chest/shoulders.

Now that you mentioned the pileated woodpecker, I haven't seen one all winter and in fact can't remember the last time I saw one. They used to be regular visitors here. I wonder how they spend their winters?

Meadowlark are you putting out suet? That seams to pull in the woodpeckers for me.
I also have a nyjer feeder for the finches a good distance away from the sunflower seed. Once I moved them away from each other I started getting a lot more finches in the feeder.

I'll have to cheat 'cos I'm useless at catching them on camera!
Just spotted this little fellow on our apple trees...

The odd thin about that being that although we see them quite often on the oak in the garden we have never seen them on the apple trees.. great for us as it was all over the trees looking for critters.

No, but that sounds like a good idea. Thanks.

I'm over run with hordes of Goldfinches. Aggressive little critters. I expect them to head your way in another month or so.

I thought i had seen finches here lately but now that im looking for them I dont see any.

The wife and I were watching the bird cam on my phone. I had it propped up with the volume on. We didnt notice the cat watching until he attacked the phone. I wish I had that on video.

Flash for @dirty hands ...I heard the distinctive call today of the pileated woodpecker. The first in a long time...or perhaps I haven't been listening carefully. There is no doubt of its call. Nothing else sounds like it. Like usual it was heard today with the bird in flight...the "wuk, wuk, wuk"

Its constant drama at the feeder. The most common combatants at this feeder seem to be the Cardinal vs the Goldfinch...and guess who usually wins?
