While out and about yesterday I seen a few Galahs ,I was recently commenting to hubby I’d not seen any in a long time

They are more often seen in the ground in groups ,
Soft fruits are grown in the Adelaide hills , cherries / strawberries / blueberries/ Apples / pears and parrots are shot and poisoned as they naturally love fruit

Then theses the rainbow lorikeet who are also targeted by fruit farmers ….these birds also venture down to the foothills suburbs …they are very noisy

The rainbow lorikeet is a species of parrot found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia.

Just a bit of info about Galahs ( pink and grey bird )

Full of character and charisma, the galah is one member of the cockatoo family that will keep you entertained for hours. If you’ve ever been the recipient of the Australian slang phrase ‘you great galah’ then you might just have caught a case of the sillies, like our native bird friend, who spends time bobbing its head as if in dance mode, cheekily eating fruit one-handed from the tree and hanging upside down from powerlines.

Friendly and funny at times, male and female galahs are both pink with pale grey backs and wings with a paler pink crown of feathers on their head. The only difference between the two is that males have brown eyes and females have red. There are three sub-species of the galah, the eastern, northern, and western, all with slight variations in the colour of their plumage.

******
Calling someone a galah is classic Aussie slang for calling them a bit of an idiot, a fool, or a clown.
It comes from the native pink-and-grey Australian cockatoo. Because these birds are notoriously loud, energetic, and a bit goofy, Aussies started using their name to describe someone acting silly or making a foolish mistake.

I sit in the sun room and watch the bird table while I eat breakfast, usually it is mostly blue tits and great tits, but I think have young in the nest is encouraging others. Yesterday there were the usual tits, plus woodpeckers, goldfinch, sparrow, blackbird and thrush, with jackdaws and a magpie underneath.
We have taken to giving the feeders and table a good scrub off twice a week, there is a nasty mite doing the rounds which gets the birds in the back of the throat and spreads easily at bird tables. It is fatal and has brought greenfinch numbers down to the point of extinction some places.

There are a pair of woodpeckers visiting our bird table recently. The post the table stands on is made of four narrow planks nd when the male arrives he starts at the bottom and goes up it checking the joins for insects before he ever looks at the food on the table.

I've dismantled my bird feeding station. Between the greedy crows, pigeons and numerous cats in the neighbourhood, other birds weren't bothering to visit. It's been decades since I was without a place to feed them, it's so disappointing. :(

We had a nesting box on the fence that blue tits used every year, but now a cat has found it can get to it. Kept it away until they fledged, but we have a bunch of stuff to go to the dump, including a parasol that went through the middle of a table but was too small to be any good. Spent a fair while today taking everything off the pole so I can put a bird box on it; let's see if the cats can climb an eight foot smooth aluminium pole :)

Sorry to hear that. Having a feeder(s) out makes an incredible difference in the number of birds around. I guess that's obvious, but it really is starkly noticeable.

When I put out suet the blackbirds find it right away and dominate the area until its gone so I dont put it out as often. The woodpeckers dont come around as often though.

Ive been seeing a few hummingbirds in their feeders and the orioles and sparrows really lije the jelly feeders so I focus on those more and the nyjer seed feeders.

My station was on a tall pole as well @Oliver Buckle but the neighbours cats took to laying at the base of it and the birds weren't happy. There's eleven cats that pass through my garden using it as a toilet in the process. I've never liked domestic cats and you can imagine what I think of them now.

My bird cam got beat up last night. I assume it was a racoon. The camera was on the ground.

I cleaned it all up real good and reinstalled it on the pole. I added some more flashing hoping that will help.

Ive been seeing at least one hummingbird in their feeder.
