Just read that the unfortunate passengers on the plague cruise liner were bird watchers who were taken on a bird watching trip where they encountered the disease by walking through a rat infested rubbish dump in Argentina. Do any of you bird watchers know why they would be taken there?
I just read that the couple sought out someone to take them to the dump in search for a rare bird.

Thanks for the info. Even workers on these sites wear protective clothing, they sadly probably wore no protective gear.

The locals avoided the place because of how bad it was.

It sounds like it was something the cruise set up.

The story keeps changing. One said the couple from denmark went on the tour another said they didnt but he was the first case.

I filled 6 jelly feeders yesterday and put out 4 orange halves. The jelly is gone. The birds come to the window looking at me getting attention then fly to the empty feeder looking at me. I think they are trying to say something.

We don’t have many brightly coloured birds in South Australia, I’ll often stand at my bay window and watch the New Holland honey eaters flittering about in a conifer near the window ( they are not scared off ,cause the windows tinted); ,being on the front of the home …. and they can’t see me

We have birds I call Bossy Boots otherwise known as Willy Wagtails ….who are of the opinion they own by small backyard …and send other birds in their way ….that are quite a bit larger than them ..like magpies .…doves

Welcome. @Peaches

Would love to see photos of bossy boots and/or any other of your birds there.

Willy Wagtails ….that I call Bossy boots :)

Scientists have labelled the willie wagtail warewolf of the moon following a recent study that found they sang “in line” with the brightness of the moon.

This is a Copy of info online about WW

Despite their small size, they are fiercely territorial. They will aggressively dive-bomb and chase off much larger birds (like magpies, kookaburras, and even wedge-tailed eagles) or pets.
*****

Ive seen WW harassing…… Wedgetail eagles that are rarely seen no unless you travel to very isolated parts of the country

A Willy Wagtail is a tiny bird you could hold in the palm if your hand …..where a wedgetail eagle is a huge bird with a wingspan of about 2 mtrs

Wedgetail Eagle that Willy Wagtails are known to harass….

They are huge ….compared to WW …I’ve seen heaps of them due to growing up in the outback / isolated areas where they are seen

Copied this bit

The Wedge-tailed Eagle is one of 24 diurnal (day-active) raptor species in Australia. Like other birds of prey, it has a hooked bill and large talons. Females are larger than males and can weigh up to 5.3 kg, measure 1 m from head to tail-tip and have a wingspan of up to 2.3 m.

Sandhill crane or a blue heron. I think it was a blue heron. He just flew up the hill like in slow motion and landed on that branch. He didnt stay long.
