Slide your cucumbers inside of an empty toilet paper tubes then cucumbers grow straight every time. When cucumbers get large enough they split the paper tubes open. I did this to National cucumbers last year. I made 9 gallons of Bread & Butter pickles, bent cucumbers make goofy shape pickle slices. There is a lot of waste from bent cucumbers.

That's an interesting tip.

I've learned over the years that cucumber curl can be virtually eliminated by growing the vines and fruit on a trellis. Further, cucumber production is increased substantially on a trellis vs ground vining.

They can still curl on a trellis. And I'm ok with that. When we make pickles, straight ones go in the crock, misshapen get sliced into chips.

Pear shaped get chunked for pickle and pepper mix.

End of season minis become gherkins or relish.

We don't do salad types.
