I was aimless looking at fake owls on amazon to read reviews about how effective they were and i ran across a fake snake for sale.

I was wondering how effective fake predators in the garden are and what other useful things can be done to keep the birds and squirrels and other pests out of my potted plants.

Thanks

They are of limited effectiveness. They work fairly well for a short period of time until the animals you are trying to fool figure out they are fake. One must keep changing the location and appearance of the predator to be in any way effective.

I have birdfeeders year around. Last spring I noticed starlings swooping down in large groups, then all freaking out and leaving. I realised they were getting spooked by the reflection on the side of my van. So maybe those reflective twirly things would at least deter birds?

I live where many wild things are. Mostly we manage to co-exist. I grow lots of things, but pretty much mammalian and birds are a non issue.
