Does it have an odor? It looks like a fungus, possibly one in the Stinkhorn family. It sounds gross but most are actually pretty interesting. I had several Clathrus Columnatus before I could identify it.

Wow, that is a pretty cool looking plant! I would say it looks like the snow plant like Becky said. I have never seen one before, but it looks like it by the picture. Not sure what else it would be if it isn't the snow plant tho, I couldn't find anything else that looked close.

I would be afraid to get near something like that, without knowing exactly what it is. I would take that bright red color as a warning to stay away and admire it from a distance.
