Container Fruit and Vegetable Garden

Hi all,

I am looking for advice on which fruits and vegetables are best suited for a containers?

I have a two patches that are both a square foot, so looking for advice on what to put in containers and what would suit to grow in the patches?

I'm in Ireland, this summer has been very warm so far and have had good success with strawberries, gooseberries, lettuce, spinach and potatoes. But hoping to plant way more!

Peppers and cucumbers sounds good to me.

In my experience, the brassicas do really well in containers...often as well or better than ground if properly spaced and managed.

Also, I grow figs in a container, and they do just great!

Of those you listed, spinach and lettuce do great...potatoes not so much.

Beans. Our favorites are Calima and Beurre de Rocquencourt, both bush types.
And peas. Pole variety are probably more worthwhile since they produce more. You can always buy a simple trellis for them to grow up onto.

Lifted some nice clean carrots yesterday grown in a container box. As it is raised a few inches off the ground and has sides above the soil level - a fibrous compost - attacks by carrot root fly have been evaded, which have been a problem in the past.
