We often forget that composting is an oxidation process exactly like burning. True higher temps destroy some value but then making a fire is also educational, as the compounds in the fire will show their true colors. Here is a paper bag for containing charcoal aflame upon a stump. Can anyone tell me the reason the flame is burning that particular color?
