Cherry?

Hey, guys! I need some help!
My fiancee and I are doing some garden work, and we decided to trim this tree. He said that it's a cherry tree, so I asked if the fruits were edible. He said he wasn't sure.
Can anyone help me identify this? Thank you!

I believe it is Prunus padus...common name Bird cherry.

The fruit is about the size of a pea and contains one large seed

The leaves of Vaccinium arboreum, common name Sparkleberry or Farkleberry are very different in shape, texture,veins etc.

The cherries look fantastic, but I wouldn't eat it until it has been identified for sure! Do you see birds eating the cherries? We have many different cherry trees around my neighborhood, and I think I saw this type before. Just not certain it is for human consumption!
