Hi,

I have had a cheese plant for almost 2 years and up until recently it has been doing really well. However, I’ve noticed these spots appearing on some new leaves at the top of the plant and older leaves at the base. I recently cut off a small leaf at the bottom because it went so yellow.

Any advice on what I’m doing wrong?? I’m always careful not to overwater.

What size is your pot? I can't tell from the picture. Is there drainage? What is the pot made of?

I have had mine for a year and a half. I changed the pot a few times, because it kept getting root bound as it grew wild. The leaves would yellow, get spots, 2 new leaves looked deformed. It is now in a 14 inch pot and about 3.5 feet tall and spread. The yellowing isn't happening anymore. Unless I forget to water, that is where I had 5 older leaves turn yellow that I cut off. I bought it a year and a half ago in a 4 inch pot. Right now it is doing great in a bigger plastic pot.

It’s in a plastic pot which has drainage holes. I also remove the pot and let it drain into the bath after watering and I repotted it earlier this year. I have read online that yellowing lower leaves can be caused by overwatering but I always wait until the top of the soil is really dry. What are those spots on my leaves due to?

The spots are usually improper watering, in my opinion and experience. But not just with monstera, with other plants too. Monstera is a very hardy tough plant in my opinion as well. I would cut back the watering a bit until the top inch or so of soil is dry. Another nice thing to have is a moisture meter. I used this for a while and eventually got used to how much each plant needed. I had over 50 house plants and this really helped and so many plants were looking great and growing great. Also, dont stress to much about it. Plants feel that and will react. Talking to your plant helps too. Tell it how beautiful it is and that you love it and it will respond. No joke. Which, I need to do this with my hydrangeas outside lol
