Can i prune Cryptomeria Jap Sekkan- Sugi.

15 years ago i bought Cryptomeria Jap Sekkan- Sugi, was told it was a small conifer, now 15mt high and 5mt wide it is beautiful, the height is no pboblem but i need to prune the width.Any advice how to do this without killing it, also what time of year in the uk.

I would take off a little every winter. About a foot or so all around, then continue yearly until the tree is the width you want. You can also remove the new candles after they form to limit the new growth.
