One of the best things I have ever used was llama manure. It was easy to work with, doesn't smell much, and did a great job of helping everything grow. Unfortunately, most of us don't have a llama, including me, nowadays.
My next favorite, was when I had a little rabbit, and I mixed the rabbit manure with water, and then dipped it by small bucket fulls, and poured it on the root area of my plants.
However, a much easier way to achieve almost the same results, is to simply use alfalfa pellets. They are clean, dry, easy to use, and don't smell at all, but they are a great fertilizer. You can put them in the ground and till them in, or simply plant over them, or you can put them in a tub of water, and let them soak a few days, and then dip the liquid out and pour it on the roots of your plants.
