ellaruis - I would agree with Claudine - and not only does your plant look more like a succulent than a cactus - it actually is a succulent :D As your plant looks to me - very much like one of the many varieties of a succulent known as Echeveria - which although a succulent - are not quite as hardy as most - in that they don't like drastic changes in terms of temperature or light and particularly light - which even though they require long hours of sunlight in order to thrive - don't do well in areas that experience intense sunlight. So if you live in an area that experiences long hours of intense sunlight - your Echeveria would be best placed in an area with light afternoon shade - as although intense sunlight will not kill the plant - it will spoil its looks - because the foliage of any Echeveria is easily burnt by very strong intense sunlight.
