I have just received the latest list of roses from. COTTAGE MEMORIES. No disrespects to other rose nurseries. I have bought from most, but I have found, Cottage Memories to be within my price range and in all honesty equal to the more named suppliers.

At present. I have some 200 plus different roses growing in 15Lt pots. , in a relatively small garden. Sadly some have only produce a single stem/cane. There are various comments on how to deal with such plants. OK I will deal with these in due course.

So now back to browsing.
I have earmarked 12 roses. My interest lies in. Strong fragrance and disease resistance. Price for bare root, £11.00 -13.60

Problem now is. Available space, and how much is in the piggy bank///!!!

My choices include...........Your'e my everything. Othello. Raymond Blanc. Pretty Jessica. Chinatown. Global Destiny. Wellbeing. Aphrodite. Maxima Romantica.

Wow that's a lot of roses. Are all your roses in containers? What kind of substrate do you use to grow roses if you don't mind me asking.

Yes. Oneeye. All in 15 Ltr. pots except for for a couple of climbers. During the 1960/70s I had a lawn with a surrounding border, home for some HT's and several Standards plus standard fuchsias.

My recent practice of container growing came about due to the soil having become toxic
due to cats, also looking ahead. My home is local council owned. The thought that whoever the next tenant might be, probably the same love, care and devotion for the roses wouldn't exist.

So containerized plants can be transported away.
I am very much a down to earth gardener. At present my roses and all other plants are potted using, Westland Multipurpose Compost , peat free. The pots stand in appropriate size saucers/drip trays to prevent weeds entering the pots from the garden soil. It is very time consuming keeping pots weeded and fed. I usually use a granular feed, TOPROSE. Also I found TOMORIGHT to be a good liquid feed. I have just purchased a submersible pump and 40 litre tank. I will use this for liquid feeding. It will save me so much time and effort.
