Hi there! I have had a money tree for a few years. Aside from the odd yellowing and dropping of leaves, it has been growing fine and has been in the same location for years. Recently, many leaves turned yellow with dark green blotchy pigmentation which I haven’t seen before. The only differences I can think of are that I used an insecticide on the plant about two months ago and have placed a new rubber plant about 5 feet away, however, that plant looks healthy. If anyone knows what this is or how to avoid it spreading, that would be great! I have just been removing the discoloured leaves so far. Thanks!

Are the yellow leaves mostly on the top or the bottom? Can you post a photo of the whole plant in the container?

They are spread throughout the plant. There are quite a few more starting to change now :(

The long term use of tap water is raising the pH of the soil and locking out trace elements. Try using RO or distilled or even rain water if you can get some, to help stop the yellowing. If the yellowing continues, let me know and we will do the next best thing to keep you plant from losing leaves.

I have one leaf that just did the same thing. A few others have brown tips.... I alternate tap and distilled water.

Greetings, welcome to the Forums

The blotchy, irregular pattern on the leaf of your Money tree (Pachira glabra or P. aquatica) suggests a disease,
but disease vs. poor cultural care is often a false dichotomy, for poor cultural practices lead to disease.

Firstly, remove all the spotted leaves form the plant. They will not recover and may spread spores.

Secondly, review cultural care and do what you can to improve it. Light should be bright, this plant can take some direct sun. if you are moving any plant from shade to sun it should be done gradually in order to prevent leaf scorch. Irrigation should be regular, but the plant should not be left to sit in stagnant water. Make certain that the drainage of soil and container is adequate. Drain the saucer shortly after irrigation. fertilize lightly with a complete, liquid fertilizer. Doing so monthly is often an adequate schedule.
