We were in Manchester City centre on Saturday - it was a beautiful morning but around lunch time it went very dark and started hailing! It was so thick it looked like snow!! Here are some photos from the local news:

Unfortunately when we got home we discovered that the storm had passed right over our house, and a bolt of lightening hit a tree nearby. It knocked out the phone lines of all the houses nearby so we are currently on mobile internet - hoping it gets fixed soon!!

Yup! Although what we've had recently pales in comparison to what's going on in the Philippines at the moment, I feel so sorry for everyone affected :(

Phone still down here, and we've been trying to figure out what has broken - TV is fine which is good, but same can't be said for our amplifier, PlayStation3, router and a light fitting. Lucky there were no fires really!

The Philippines is terrible. I've put some emergency donation links up on the other forum, don't suppose they'd be much use here with the majority of the members living in the USA.

Sounds like the EM pulse has fried them, were they left on but the TV was switched off by any chance?

Everything was on standby, and we had a surge protector albeit not a very tough one. Currently got the BT guy around looking at the phone line - it seems to be working, but some of the sockets and connectors have been fried - together with the phones themselves! I wonder what else is broken that we don't know about yet...?!

Hot water and heating is fine thank goodness - we're especially glad given the current forecast!

One of our neighbours nearly had a fire - the TV in their kitchen was making constant electrical spark sounds, and the fuse hadn't blown cutting the power to it. Lucky they caught it when they did otherwise it could have been a whole lot worse!

Gosh. That looks bad. I'm sorry you had to go through that but it's a good thing you're okay.

Blimey, they were lucky.

Glad there wasn't further damage Becky, have you had Ian checked for overloads? :D

Ha ha, he is pretty overloaded right now! :D Starting to get things replaced now, so hopefully back to normal soon.
