What is the best mulch to prevent soil/water from splashing on the plant when watering?

Home Depot sells these, and I’m not sure if they are good/safe.

IMO cedar mulch is the best mulch. The brown mulch above is pine and pine bark dyed to a brown color. Eucalyptus mulch has some toxicity to plants, especially important for food plants. Both of the above decompose a lot faster than cedar. At the end of the season just rake the cedar away and store it until next year. Cedar also has a slight insect repellent trait.
