Best Hedge Plants

I am seeking around to find plants that can give me a very thick hedge, one that can be resistant to humans as well as animals. I prefer this over a concrete wall being erected, i like hibiscus, lantana and even hixora but i would like to get additional ideas from you guys so let me know of any you are familiar with that is ideal for this.

Lantana is a good choice because it grows fairly quickly and you get the added bonus of flowers. I love lantana; I found a pink one last spring on clearance at Lowes. It didn't have flowers at the time so I almost didn't get it, but I was pleasantly surprised when it did finally bloom as I wanted pink.
