I've tried topping peppers and other things but I find it holds them back. Might be okay if you have a longer growing season but mine is too short to hold their growth back even for a short time.

Your right as far as holding back.

I read where you take every bloom off a Petunia it would have so many blooms. I didn't like the wait.

Peppers it showed Topping before setting them out so you could allow time for this.

We had a really hot, dry summer and things have produced lots of fruit, things like acorns, sloes and hawthorn are really laden. People say to me, "They must have liked that weather", but I reckon they are going "Jeez, another summer like that would be the death of me, better reproduce." In other words I reckon abuse stimulates reproduction, seems to work for me pinching things out a bit.

It's a bit like dead heading, flowers are just a means to producing the all important seeds as far as the plant is concerned, by dead heading you defeat that purpose and the plant has to start over with another flower.
