Hi,

I live in the San Francisco area, 9b zone.
I bought a basil plant from a store. Should I re-pot it outside or just re-pot in a larger pot and keep it inside ?
The temp goes down to 40 F here in winters.

How about mint ? I'm going get a mint plant as well. Keep outside or inside ?

Thanks,
Norm

I doesn't really matter with basil as it is an annual and will die each year although if you let it flower it will come back from seed. Mint is a very invasive perennial and will last for years but will take over. It should be planted in a container. Outside is generally better for most edible plants

I would keep basil indoors and mint in a pot outdoors. As @Chuck said, mint is terribly invasive, they will take over if you let it loose on the ground. I'm still hunting for 2 remnants.

depends on what the pot looks like for the basil. but would re-pot the mint in a larger pot and sit it outside, then more will grow in it. both can stay outside in that warm temp.
