Baby Japanese Maple exposing root

Hi,
I have a baby Japanese maple and noticed the root is now exposed above the native clay soil.
It's still a baby tree (like a skinny stick) that is newly plant for 6 months and I am worried the root is now growing down into the soil or have other problems.
What should I do?
For the record I am near Sacramento area

What is showing is the root flare. It is supposed to show but not quite that much. Apply more soil to cover the roots just enough so that the TOP HALF of the roots are still showing.
