automatic rain water garden

i am growing tomatoes, peppers and other vegetable plants in 5 gallon buckets using an automatic rain watering system. i am using a 4" x 10' pvc pipe which holds 9 five gallon buckets. a 1/2" mini float is installed inside the pipe to keep the water level full.

That is wonderful and a great way to use nature resource. I also collect rain water to water my tiny garden area and my potted flowers, but it is not as elaborated as yours. My rain water are in buckets :)

I love it, but am confused. How does the water get into the plants? *not feeling very smart right now*

if you look at the picture of the orange 5 gallon bcket there is a black plastic net cup which has the potting mix packed firmly inside it along with the rest of the potting mix, the net cup is always suspended in rain water making the plants grow seems alot faster.
