We inherited a little apple tree in our back garden when we moved in a couple of years ago. Last year the tree produced quite a lot of apples but a lot of them had big, dark marks on the skin which was pretty unsightly in most cases but did ruin a few of the apples, with the skin broken.

I read up that it was probably black spot as the leaves were also in bad nick. Anyway, this year I started off by watching the leaves very closely, cutting off any which seemed to be diseased and also spraying Provanto Fungus Fighter Plus in the spring.

It seemed to keep the tree in better health but I'm still getting a lot of leaves turning bad, despite continuing to the leaves off and respraying.

At the moment, it looks like this:-

It's a big improvement from last year in terms of the apples themselves, which are largely unmarked but what I'm wondering is there anything else I could be doing or is there a better spray to counter this than the Fungus Fighter Plus one I have?

As you can see the leaves are still pretty badly effected now and it's covering a lot of the tree like that...

You want to open those trees up where you can get a good air flow from any direction. During Winter pruning thin out the dense areas to open the inside of the trees up.
