One of my favorites to grow during the cooler months. The weather in my area has been unseasonably warm this year with much Sun and my Mustard Greens are loving it! I harvested this batch on New Year's eve to have with my New Year's Day Ham meal:

Then, only 10 days later, the garden looked like this and I harvested again:

They are the "Florida Broadleaf" variety and have excellent flavor. The stems are also very tender when cooked, unlike store-bought Mustard Greens. And the leaves get pretty big, here's one next to a standard work glove:

And I even grow some in "Milk Jugs"!:

I sowed some Florida Broadleaf mustards a few years ago and they just keep coming back this time of year on their own. I'm thinking about getting a seed pack of a different variety, just to compare it to what I have now.

The birds love the seeds

I've used mustard as a cover crop, turnip too. Don't harvest much since I'm the only one that eats it here.

Plan on mostly beets and spinach this year.

I grow several variants of mustard ("micro greens") in my indoor organic LED garden. Some spicy like wasabi, some not. They grow well and fast indoors. This is my favorite strain, has a strong wasabi flavor and it's the only kind that doesn't have flat leaves:

I also use those for cover crops. Mustard has the ability to improve soil w/deep tap roots and is excellent at weed suppression and pest management.

It has allelopathic properties that can inhibit growth of other plants e.g. weeds and reportedly can act a natural biofumigant to reduce pathogens and pests.

For some reason, I didn't plant mustard this winter but using turnips, daikon radish, and alfalfa in rotational planting.
