Any ideas what this is

Hi All

Had two of these grow in a small patch in the backyard. They grew to about 1.5 metres before being removed as they started to die off

Since then we have had a few shoot up around that area.

Any idea what they are?

I`m wondering if it might be Iresine herbstii ? I reckon it might grow in Oz - it does in Malaysia and other nice warm places :)

Possibly Amaranthus cruentus- red amaranth. It's not native to Australia but can be grown there.
Yes, another one of the Amaranthe family, there are about 60 different varieties of bloodroot :) Iresine is one of them. I understand this has been banned as a food colouring now in the USA. E123
