There were a bunch of plants growing at the edge of a hillside on my new propoerty. It looks like a clump of amaryllis. A lot of them were dug out by an animal I beleive and have been sitting on the ground. Most have green leaves growing still, some have died off. They never got to flower stage. Can they be dried out and replanted in the fall? Were thet destroyed havinbg been pulled out of the ground prior to flowering?

Greetings, welcome to the Forums.

Its not clear if the plants were Amaryllis belladonna, Hippeastrum cvs., or perhaps a native Crinum or some other bulb,. Still in any case, uprooted bulbs will usually survive such disturbance if they are still intact. Remove any dead leaves, keep any living ones, and replant the bulbs half-buried at the surface in rich, well-draining soil, either back in the ground or in a container.

It would be good to identify what dug them out of the ground. They are not often eaten by large ,digging animals as both Amaryllis, Hippeastrum, Crinum, and most other bulbs in the Amaryllidoideae subfamily of Amaryllidaceae are toxic to vertebrates.
