Agapanthus tip "burn"?

Hi - I live in Southern California where the weather is mild and agapanthus are everywhere. I have some myself. As a general rule, the tips of the leaves look burned on agapanthus planted in sun (or maybe it's not a burn but something else?), yet they are a sun plant. However, aggies planted in shade or semi-shade don't seem to have this problem. They look beautiful. Does anyone know what causes the tips to do this or how to deal with it? Since I see it everywhere, I'm thinking it's normal. But it sure looks ugly.

Yes - although Agapanthus are sun loving plants - its is quite normal - when grown in climates that have long hours of intense sunlight - for them to suffer from the problem of looking rather unsightly due to scorched leaf tips - like the ones in your photos.

However the good news is - that as Agapanthus in these conditions are best grown in an area where they get light afternoon shade - your only real solution to this problem - if your Agapanthus are currently in a site that receives all day sun - would be to consider moving them to a site where they will receive light shade in the afternoon - as that way should have attractive looking foliage without any tip scorch.
