The title of this post makes it look like its similar to my previous post but this is a totally different post about something totally different.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get like a bucket full of sugar maple tree seeds? The "helicopters"? For free?

Here's the situation (again this has nothing at all to do with my other posts about maple trees). In my local mountain biking spot, there was a small but intense brush fire last year that fully cleared an area of the woods. Even old tall trees completely burned out.

There have been brush fires in the woods a million times before, and I know it will all grow back eventually.

HOWEVER it will all grow back much quicker if I walk through the area and spread a 5 gallon bucket full of maple tree helicopters :D

I could have gathered them off the ground but I didn't think of this until it was too late this fall to do that. So on the off chance that someone either has a bunch the have no use for, or someone knows some place that.... give them out for free? I dunno, its a long shot but if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

My compliments @1008com on your project. I can't help with the seeds but can offer moral support.

Over 40 years ago, I took on a similar project but with the American Walnut Tree as the object of restoration.

One of the greatest moments of joy on this ranch was when I discovered two mature producing walnut trees decades later.

Go for it!! 🤠

Well if you like what I'm doing, you'll be glad to know I've been doing the same thing in a different, nearby forest with oak tree acorns the past two biking seasons. Those other woods have had issues with arsonists who go in there and light small fires during droughts which get pretty intense. Luckily they haven't made it over to my closest local woods where I'm looking to do the maples. The burn spot there is right above a local high school, it was probably some dork who went in the woods to smoke and was careless with the butts. Which isn't a good thing but is better than someone intentionally setting fires. Anyway, I really wish I thought of this maple thing sooner, I would have had tons of seeds I could have snagged, and tons of opportunities to spread them around this past season. Oh well.
